5 Tips For Your Spring Professional Wardrobe

OptIn

Now that we are well into March and there is a bit more sun out, I’m starting to feel like it’s almost Spring!  Spring is a tricky time of year to dress, especially for a business casual environment.  Some days it’s wet and rainy.  Other days, it’s warm and sunny.  Many days it’s all of those together!   It makes it hard to dress appropriately for the range of weather you may face in a day.  That said, it’s exciting to leave behind the darker colors of Fall and Winter and opt for some bright and cheery attire.  The purpose of this post is to provide tips for transitioning into spring professional wardrobe.

Spring Professional Wardrobe

5 Tips For Your Spring Professional Wardrobe

(Note:  May contain affiliate links)

1.  Wear Rain Boots (and pack your heels)

Spring = Rain

At least in most climates I’ve lived in, Spring is rainy.  Maybe snowy too.  But likely rainy a lot.  Rain Boots are an essential to any spring professional wardrobe.  I do advocate wearing boots in general in the winter (see post on shoes), but those are usually leather and suede which is best for dry weather or maybe snow.

In torrential rain, you’re going to want to wear rain boots in transit (not in the office). I typically put rain boots on when I leave my house, and then change them for heels or maybe flats at my desk.  This allows me to wear comfortable, appropriate, and fashionable shoes without getting my feet wet and cold when I’m walking in from my car.

Hunter boots are probably the most popular boot ever made (ok, maybe second to Uggs).  But black ones are a staple to many women’s wardrobes….

…but they also come in fun colors that would really make the commute to work fun!

2.  Brighten Up Your Blouses

The sun is coming out, flowers are blooming…let’s leave behind the dark winter clothes and wear some color!!  Bright, pastel colors are a staple of your Spring professional wardrobe.

Here are some gorgeous Spring blouses…

AQUA - Sleeveless Semi-Sheer Lace Top - 100% Exclusive

For some reason, I just think that AQUA blouse is amazing.  Love the detail and the navy/white contrast.  Cannot wait to wear it!  But you’ll need a blazer or cardigan over it to make it work appropriate.

Nothing says Spring more than the color blush!!

How gorgeous is that blue?!

A lot of these options are sleeveless (or short sleeve), which may not be work appropriate.  Also, Spring can be very wet and possibly cold.  Therefore, I have the next tip…

3.  Layer Under a Light Rain Coat

There are two parts to this tip.  First, you’re going to want to layer with a cardigan to keep warm.  Second, you’re going to want to wear a rain coat to stay dry!

Here are some Spring cardigans and rain coats:

T Tahari - Open Cardigan

I love Tahari (yes, I’ve said this many times on this blog!).  This cardigan is such a pretty neutral with a warm undertone that would compliment any of the blouses above.

While this is a neutral, it also comes in Spring colors as well:

You’ll also want a rain coat to keep you dry.  It’s best to go with a neutral.  Of course, Burberry’s rain coat is iconic but also expensive.  The good news is that there are a lot of options in every price range for rain coats that basically look the exact same as Burberry’s.

Burberry - Heritage Sandringham Mid-Length Trench Coat

Barbour coats aren’t exactly trench coats, but they are perfect for rain!

4.  Toe Dip with White Jeans

It’s not quite summer but all those pretty, bright, pastel colors look amazing with white jeans.  The reason I say that you need to toe dip is because white can get really dirty in the rain (even if you’re wearing boots, you can get splashed).  And, if not paired appropriately, you also may look too summery.

rag & bone/JEAN - Skinny Jeans in White

I’ve had these white jeans for years.  They are actually really stain resistant and comfortable.  I can’t wait until this rain stops so I can bring them out!

5.  Pack Your Gear into a Tote

In the end, with the weather fluctuations, I end up needing a tote to carry all my gear.  Mostly my change of shoes.  In addition, I also carry an umbrella and, depending on the weather, a scarf.

I always advocate that everyone needs a Longchamp Le Pilage:

I am thankful that this post pointed out that rain boots are excellent during spring time as it is often rainy and wet. My wife was asking about Womens knee high snake skin print rain boots the other day and wondered if it would be appropriate for her to wear a pair. I think since we are entering spring time, I will encourage her to proceed.

I think that knee high snake skin print rain boots would be tons of fun to wear for spring. I may not wear them into the office, as they would attract a lot of attention but I bet they are fun for social events.
